The 被 (bèi) passive in Chinese
被 makes a passive sentence: Receiver + 被 + (Doer) + Verb + Result: 我的自行车被偷了 "My bike was stolen". Like 把, the verb needs something after it. Traditionally 被 is used for unwelcome events; neutral passives are often expressed without 被 at all.
