用法How to use 爬
爬 (pá) is a regular verb meaning to crawl on hands and knees, to climb with effort (as in 爬山 'go hiking' or 爬树 'climb a tree'), or informally to get up from bed. It often takes directional complements such as 上, 到, and 起来, e.g. 爬上树, 爬到山顶, 爬不起来. Use 爬 for people or animals moving on all fours or climbing with effort; it is not used for boarding a vehicle.

常见错误Common mistakes
-
✗他爬了树上。
✓他爬上了树。
The directional complement 上 must directly follow the verb 爬; 了 cannot separate 爬 and 上. Alternatively say 他爬到树上。
易混词Easily confused
爬vs怕
怕 (pà, fourth tone) means 'to fear', while 爬 (pá, second tone) means 'to crawl/climb'. For 'go hiking' write 爬山, not 怕山.
