用法How to use 聊天儿
聊天儿 is the erhua form of 聊天 and means 'to chat/gossip' in informal spoken Chinese. It is intransitive: use 跟/和 + person + 聊天儿, or 在网上聊天儿; it does not take a direct object. It is separable, so you can also say 聊了一会儿天儿 or 聊天儿聊了两个小时, but the everyday fixed form is 聊天儿.

说话 means 'to speak/talk' and can refer to one person speaking; 聊天儿 specifically means informal mutual chatting, so 跟朋友聊天儿 is natural, while 跟朋友说话 only says you spoke to them.
