用法How to use 西方
西方 (Xīfāng) usually means 'the West' — Western countries or Western culture — and appears in combinations such as 西方国家、西方文化、在西方. In the directional sense it can also mean 'the west' (e.g. 太阳从西方落下), while 西边 is the ordinary way to say 'the west side' of a specific place. Pinyin is capitalized for the cultural/political sense Xīfāng and lowercase xīfāng for the direction.
