New HSK 2 Exam Format (HSK 3.0): Question Types and Timing
The official new HSK 2 sample paper has 60 questions and takes about 60 minutes: listening (25 questions, about 17 min), reading (25 questions, 25 min) and writing (10 questions, 10 min).

Common questions
How many questions are on the new HSK 2?
The official sample paper has 60 questions: listening (25 questions, about 17 min), reading (25 questions, 25 min) and writing (10 questions, 10 min).
How long is the new HSK 2 exam?
About 60 minutes, including 5 minutes for personal details and 3 minutes after listening to fill in the answer sheet on the paper test.
Does the new HSK 2 have writing?
Yes. A character is missing a component: choose the component that completes it. Write the missing character in a sentence, with pinyin given.
Does the new HSK 2 have a speaking test?
CTI’s sample papers include speaking papers only from Level 3, so there is none at this level.
Does the new HSK 2 paper show pinyin?
Yes. The official sample paper prints pinyin above the Chinese text.
How many words do I need for the new HSK 2?
500 numbered entries in total in the official 2025 syllabus, including 200 introduced at this level.
What is the pass mark for the new HSK 2?
CTI’s sample papers do not state one, and we have not found a published pass mark. Do not assume the HSK 2.0 marks carry over.
