New HSK 6 Exam Format (HSK 3.0): Question Types and Timing
The official new HSK 6 sample paper has 82 questions and takes about 125 minutes: listening (40 questions, about 30 min), reading (40 questions, 40 min) and writing (2 questions, 45 min). A separate speaking paper has 5 questions and takes about 23 minutes.

Does the new HSK 6 have a speaking test?
Yes, as a separate paper. The sample has 5 questions in about 23 minutes. Ask your test centre how to register for it and check whether your programme requires it.
Does the new HSK 6 paper show pinyin?
No. The official sample paper is in characters, apart from any pinyin clues given in a writing task.
How many words do I need for the new HSK 6?
5,400 numbered entries in total in the official 2025 syllabus, including 1,800 introduced at this level.
What is the pass mark for the new HSK 6?
CTI’s sample papers do not state one, and we have not found a published pass mark. Do not assume the HSK 2.0 marks carry over.
